Nah, it's not the condiment kind...just my little joke.
We left home on October 15th heading for Yuma. The first day was uneventful...well, spent the night at Rolling Hills Casino, where I had a free $5 slot play. We always forget when senior day happens at the buffet, so tonight was burgers in the little bar. Should have gone for the buffet as the burgers cost nearly as much. The buffet? Well, senior day gets us two meals for the price of one...bonus!...The slot play? I added another $10 to the free play and redeemed my ticket for six cents and a free Coke as we went out the door...There weren't too many RVs in the lot, so we thought it would be a quiet night. But it was not to be. We awoke to a truck on each side of us. Thank goodness neither was a refrigerator truck, which runs the refer all night long.
The second day we made it to Tehachapi and enjoyed a cool night's sleep, although surrounded by trucks again. But it was one of the few times we got up in the morning without snow or ice on the ground up there...During the day we passed many new olive and almond groves growing along the freeway.
Much of the land has been just dirt/sand piles for many years. The farmers have been claiming it's because of lack of water...hmmm, maybe. I sure don't keep up with California politics that much.
Then as we crossed from I-5 to 99 towards Bakersfield...roses...fields and fields of roses...all colors...all kinds...bush...hybrids...tea...tree...bee-you-ti-ful!
As usual we argued over which road to take from Tehachipi. I prefer to stay off the freeways...too many crazy drivers going oh so fast..., and Norman likes taking the freeways, because they are faster.
Well, we did make it safe and sound to Yuma and were treated to dinner at Boo n Ethel's place that night. It took us a while to get truly settled, because the neighbors came out of the woodwork to greet us. And visiting does take a long time, unless you're rude, doncha know...lol
